Every Tuesday, at the same time, in the same room, the same group of men gathers. For over twenty-five years. A ritual that has barely changed, even as the players slowly do. The movements are familiar, the game still taken seriously—and yet, something subtly shifts.
In De dinsdagavonden, this moment is frozen in time. Two screens show a single instant of the game from more than six hundred camera angles. Not the decisive moment, but what surrounds it: a player waiting on the sideline, a latecomer hurrying in, a goalkeeper momentarily lost in thought. The contest for the ball, fierce, repetitive, timeless.
Tjerk van der Ham’s music shapes the experience, slowing down and accelerating perception.
Meanwhile, almost unnoticed, another game is being played: time itself. At first, the men appear young. Gradually, image by image, they age. Bodies change; habits remain. The same Tuesday, the same room. Marked now by the quiet weight of time.
Here, different experiences of time exist side by side: a split second observed from hundreds of viewpoints, and the span of an adult life. The work invites prolonged looking, until time is no longer seen, but felt.
