About the artist

Thijs Linssen (1987) is a visual artist based in Arnhem, the Netherlands. He studied Fine Arts at ArtEZ University of the Arts. In his work, which includes sculpture, installation and video, Linssen starts from personal observations and everyday experiences. From these autobiographical points of departure, he creates images that resonate with a shared, collective memory.

His work explores how memories, family relationships and everyday rituals acquire meaning within our lives. By subtly shifting or isolating familiar situations, he creates space for reflection. The ordinary becomes charged with new significance, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect on their own memories and experiences.

Linssen has exhibited at venues including Expo Bart, Galerie Vriend van Bavink, Art Gallery O-68 and the Biennale Gelderland. His work has also been shown at festivals in London and San Francisco, as well as at art fairs such as Unfair Amsterdam.

His work is included in the collections of the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Dutch Government Art Collection, the Province of Gelderland and Collection De Groen.

Linssen is a member of the artist collective Koppig which received the Arnhem Culture Prize in 2025.
