Film is een vorm van fictie die moeiteloos als waarheid aanvaard wordt. We voelen ons pas betrapt als we iets zien dat onmogelijk is. In de film “Inception” uit 2010 van Christopher Nolan wordt met dit idee gespeeld door de creatie van droomwerelden die zich voordoen als werkelijkheid. De vervagende grenzen tussen de “echte” wereld en de droomwereld zet alles op losse schroeven. Niet alleen de personages maar ook de kijker verliest zijn zicht op wat echt is en wat fictie. Thijs Linssen zoekt ook de ragfijne grens tussen de digitale en de ‘echte’ werkelijkheid op. ‘So how did we end up here’ voorziet de toeschouwer van filmtechnieken en – materialen en plaatst hem als het ware voor het bluescreen van een extreme actiescène die de toeschouwer nog zelf moet verzinnen. Te midden van de voelbare energie die het werk uitstraalt kun je niets anders dan jezelf de vraag stellen ‘So, how did weend up here?’

Film is a form of fiction that is effortlessly accepted as truth. We only feel caught when we see something that is impossible. Christopher Nolan's 2010 film “Inception” plays with this idea through the creation of dream worlds masquerading as reality. The blurring boundaries between the "real" world and the dream world unsettles everything. Not only the characters but also the viewer lose sight of what is real and what is fiction. Thijs Linssen also explores the delicate border between digital and 'real' reality. 'So how did we end up here' provides the spectator with film techniques and materials and places him, as it were, in front of the blue screen of an extreme action scene that the spectator still has to invent himself. In the midst of the palpable energy that the work radiates, you can only ask yourself the question 'So, how did weend up here?'
